Citizens for Education present "What's at Stake"
A community-based group, the Citizens for Education, will be distributing referendum information at the Friday night home football game. After tomorrow's game the brochure will be circulated throughout the community.

THS Class of 1970 hold 40th Reunion
The Taylorvile High School Class of 1970 held a weekend of festivities to celebrate their 40th class reunion beginning with a casual get together at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at Angelo's. A breakfast was held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14th at the Round Table Restaurant and the reunion dinner and program was held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14th at Lake Shore Golf Course.

C.E.F.S. awards educational scholarships
C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation, Board of Directors recently awarded $18,900 in educational scholarships to 30 individuals who are pursuing post secondary education. The educational scholarships were made available through funding provided by the Community Services Block Grant Program from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Kami Dunkirk recipient of 3rd annual Katelyn McCarty Memorial Education Scholarship
The third annual recipient of the Katelyn McCarty Memorial Education Scholarship is Kami Dunkirk. Kami is the daughter of Jim and Terra Dunkirk of Taylorville. She plans to pursue her nursing degree at Millikin University in Decatur. IL.

South Fork School Board convened for its first meeting of the school year last night, after students completed their first day back in session. On the agenda was the FY 2011 budget, goals for the new school year, and recent improvements to school facilities.

Online registration made virtual reality
Taylorville CUSD offers registration online for the first time this year. "It's quick," says parent Laurie Sparling. "And it's easy," replies her daughter, incoming freshman Taylor Sparling. Over 20 computers are accessible on ground floor levels of each school building for online registration. School staff help parents and students register using the new system. Kathy Vocks, assisting in the high school lab, helps answer questions about the new process. "Today is smooth sailing," Vocks says.

TCUSD to pass deficit budget for 2010-2011
Reported at the Taylorville CUSD School Board meeting, Monday, August 9, 2010, the state has up until December 30, 2010 to pay the district a total of $761,666 owed for Fiscal Year 2010, and, while figures are subject to change pending action by the state, TCUSD will likely adopt a deficit budget for the 2010-2011 school year, with a $1,274,500 deficit in the Education Fund.

Tom Campbell announces candidacy for Regional Superintendent of Schools
Hoping to continue a thirty-three year career in education, Tom Campbell of Taylorville announced his candidacy for Regional Superintendent of Schools of Christian and Montgomery Counties. Tom Campbell will use his past experience as a principal, teacher, and active community member to provide leadership in the Regional Superintendent's Office to put kids first, pool resources to save tax dollars, and offer more cost effective, targeted teacher improvement opportunities.
