Harvest approaches for County Farmers
A few crinkled leaves crunch under the feet of children going back to school. Golden columns of corn hug the roadsides. Fall lingers as a hint in the humid breeze. Christian County Farm Bureau Manager Eric Johnson says, "Harvest will be fairly standard timing wise. From what I hear, most producers plan to start picking corn in full swing after Labor Day Weekend. There will be some corn picked prior to labor day, but the majority will begin during the first two full weeks of September. Some corn is being picked slowly at this time in Shelby County where the corn was damaged by the bad storm we had in July. Local grain elevators will be very busy as well during this time and are usually open special hours during harvest."

Sanitary District of Decatur answers pipeline concerns

The Christian County Farm Bureau hosted an informational meeting last night at the Stonington American Legion, where Ellis represented the Sanitary District of Decatur and spoke to landowners and operators about how the route projected for the TEC pipeline will affect local agriculture activity.
